CV tips: First impressions do count

Here’s a guide to what you should include in your CV – be positive but don’t boast. Use a clear font and a simple layout, no more than two A4 pages printed on good quality white paper. Remember to adapt your CV to each job you apply for – read the job description carefully and highlight your appropriate skills.

Contact details
Include your name, address and telephone number (only include links to social media if this shows you in a good light)
Your Personal Profile
Match this to the job you are applying for – it should be a few lines describing your skills and experience and career goals
Education and training
List your most recent qualifications first and include work related courses if relevant
Work experience
List your most recent experience first and include job titles and with a brief description of what the work involved – skills used and gained. Also include temporary and voluntary work.
Interests and achievements
This can be a good chance to show how you are a team player, good with people and fit. Include hobbies, interests and achievements which show off your personal skills.
Additional Information
Include anything else that may be relevant e.g. clean driving licence.
References
Include at least one work related reference if possible (ask their permission first)
